Mornings are in slow motion but I’ve lived a fast life.. I spend my time with the polish dancing group and choir… I am part of the Polish-Canadian Women’s Federation…I’m not going to tell you how old I am but I will tell you that I had to leave Poland after World War II in 1945… we fled to Germany…to Montreal, Quebec and then made our way to Hamilton…It wasn’t like it is today… they didn’t open their arms to refugees back then…even though we looked similar… we didn’t speak English…we had an accent and our last names gave us away…so it was hard to find a job… we were displaced… embarrassed…we experienced a lot of racism”
